Do you worry that the way you handle stress is having a negative impact on your parenting? How do you know if your stress is harming your kids? Here are two quick tests to find out. (Be honest!)
The home environment: Is your home a place where you and your kids can de-stress? Are there laughs and time to enjoy each other’s company in a relaxed mode?
Kids impression: If you asked your kids to describe you, what would they say? Would they say you are usually calm, fun, enjoyable and take time to listen or play with them? Or would they say you are running around, tense and stressed out? Or as my son said once during a word game, when asked for words that start with “w”; Wits end, like mommy always says, starts with “w”.
If your home climate is on-edge and your kids would describe you as usually “tense, wiped-out and irritable,” it’s time to manage your stress differently.
